Antonietta Collins
Antonietta Toni Gonzalez-Collins is a Mexican-American sportscaster. She is currently working as a sportscaster at ESPN and is anchor for SportsCenter news and hosting SportsNation. She joined ESPN in the year of 2016. Her mother is Maria Antonieta Collins, a journalist on television. Antonietta Collins is bilingual and has been for a long time, starting at when she was nine years old. The ability to speak two languages helped her to get her first job at Univision, Miami. She could work with national producers on programs such as Nuestra Belleza Latina Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud Primer Impacto. Then she was promoted to a reporter for The CBS St. Petersburg affiliate in the following year. She moved from St. Petersburg to Rio Grande Valley in 2009 to become a reporter at one of the Spanish channels KNVO TV 48 Univision, as well as Fox2 News. Reporting on stories about the issue of immigration and drug trafficking from both sides of the border, she was an anchor for five minutes of the p.m. Spanish newscast a anchor and reporter for anchoring the 9 p.m. newscast in English, and a reporter again for 10 p.m. Spanish newscast. In the course of a few months, her father separated from her mother. She then remarried in 1995 a naval architect called Fabio Fajardo. Fabio Fajardo passed away from kidney cancer in 2006. Her residence was at Canton Ohio with her older sister over the summer in which she was offered an opportunity to work. Antonietta is a senior in high school, yet she knew exactly what career path she wanted to pursue. While deciding if Mount Union would be a good fit for her, Antonietta went to visit the school. In the end, she loved the campus and that they had the degree she was searching for. After completing the requirements for high school, she enrolled in the university to study media studies. Mark Bergmann, her professor who was also the manager of WRMU's 91.1FM station where she worked for many years, became a friend. Mark's passion for journalism and confidence in her own abilities inspired her. She, in turn, tried to meet the standards he set and to not disappoint him.
